What is the Divemaster course all about?

The journey to becoming a PADI Divemaster is an exciting and challenging one that requires dedication and commitment. However, the rewards are well worth the effort! Not only will you gain a deeper understanding of diving theory and practical skills, but you will also develop leadership abilities that will serve you well in all areas of your life.

To become a PADI Divemaster, you will need to complete a comprehensive training program. Diving theory, safety procedures and environmental awareness are subjects you will learn more about. The practical application phase involves mastering various diving skills, such as navigational techniques, search and recovery, and emergency procedures. Participating in scenarios, for example guiding dives and assisting instructors during courses are part of your practical lessons.

Finally, the leadership phase focuses on developing your leadership abilities, such as problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills. You will also have the opportunity to shadow experienced Divemasters and instructors to gain hands-on experience. All knowledge, skills and practical assessments built towards your future Divemaster role.

When can I start the Divemaster course?

To start the course, you need to make sure you have met all prerequisites:

  • Certified PADI Advanced Open Water Diver

  • Certified PADI Rescue Diver

  • 18 years old

  • 40 logged scuba dives

  • Completed Emergency First Responder (EFR) Primary and Secondary Care training within 24 months, or hand over a certificate of completion from an equivalent training organization which we can verify with PADI. 

  • Medically evaluated and cleared for diving by a physician within 12 months. Download the Dive Medical Form here

The course flow is flexible, however you need to finish all items of your course within one year.

1. Knowledge development:
Start with enrolling your Divemaster eLearning. This eLearning code is only available through our dive shop and comes with several dive slates. This is called your crew pack After finishing your eLearning and taking your exams, finish the knowledge development with the Quick Review at the dive shop. Part of the knowledge development is also to create an Emergency Assistance Plan of a known dive site.

2. Waterskills:
Swim, float and push a tired diver. As a Divemaster you need to be physically fit. These exercises are to determine if you really are.

3. Practical skills:
Learn how to create a map of a dive site. Practice search patterns and tying knots during the Search & Recovery scenario. Join a Deep Dive scenario and manage and set up a dive site during for example a Dive Against Debris event. Last but not least, learn how to conduct perfect dive briefings.

4. Workshops
The workshops are all about gaining experience and practicing the programs you may conduct as a certified Divemaster. You will join the ReActivate workshop, Advanced Snorkeler, Discover Scuba Diving Program and Discover Local Diving.

5. Practical Assessments
During the practical assessments you will learn more about your role as a Divemaster during courses. Join one of our instructors during an Open Water Diver Course and Continuing Education courses (all courses after Open Water). It is likely that you will work with actual candidates, but if they aren’t available you will practice with role players.

Duration:
A minimum of 8 full days, but we highly recommend to add some more for the best experience.

Price per person:
1548 usd

This price excludes the Divemaster Application fee, rent of dive equipment and tanks. Divemasters also need to have their own additional dive equipment materials, such as a compass, dive knife and surface signaling devices. All these items are not included in the price.
